Is Coconut Palm Tree a Valuable Plant For Us???

By alena jones at 2010-12-27 05:43:03
The coconut palm tree is a remarkable and valuable plant. The coconut palm tree has probably a thousand uses. The nut of the coconut palm plant is used as a source of food to sustain life. It is an important ingredient in medicine. Other parts of the plant are used as materials to build shelter, make clothing, charcoal, and various tools. Coconut bears healthful properties in its entirety, particularly its cream and oil. Let me bring you in to see how these coconut cream and coconut oil can give your skin a natural dazzling glow, and most importantly, help you burn your excess fats away and boost your health tremendously.

Coconut oil is extracted from the dried flesh of the coconut. It is also a source of plant-based saturated fat, the very fat doctors and nutritionists alike have been telling us to avoid like the plague. Many of these fears are baseless. Although it is true that 90% of the coconut fruit contains saturated fat, 45% of this content is actually lauric acid - a fatty acid that can be converted to monolaurin by the body. Coconut oil is stable to cook with at high temperatures, partly due to that coconuts grow in temperatures up to one hundred degrees. It is completely non-toxic to humans, even after high temperature cooking methods, as it doesn't form harmful by-products when heated like other vegetable oils do.

Botanically, a coconut is a simple dry nut known as a fibrous drupe. It is not fruit. The shell of the coconut has three pores that are clearly visible on the outside surface of the shell. Adhering to the inside wall of the shell is "the coconut meat", the white and fleshy edible part of the seed. Many people believe that the clear juice that runs out of a coconut when you break it or pierce the eyes is the coconut milk, but this is not true. The coconut milk is made when you combine grated coconut with the milk inside the coconut.Mix a few cups of grated coconut with the milk of the coconut in a heavy pot. A good guideline is to use three quarters of a cup of loosely packed, grated coconut per cup of coconut milk.

Coconut oil is solid at room temperature (unless you are in a very hot climate). It can thus be used as a full or partial replacement for other less healthy solid fats, such as margarine or butter. It does not have to go through the unnatural (and dangerous) methods which are used to make other oils into solids. The white fleshy part, or meat, is used in a wide range of traditional Polynesian dishes. The coconut water, found in the central cavity of the coconut, is a highly nutritious and refreshing drink. When grated coconut meat is processed with water or milk, the result is coconut milk or coconut cream. This can be further processed into coconut oil. Coconut oil helps relieve the symptoms of menopause, and pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). Many women who suffer the effects of PMS have found the symptoms lessened when coconut oil was consumed often in their diet.

The water and flesh from young coconuts contains the full range of B vitamins, with the exception of B6 and B12. B vitamins are essential for providing us energy as they break down carbohydrates and proteins. They also support nervous system function and, interestingly, the muscle tone of the stomach. Coconut oil is antiviral, antifungal (kills yeast too) and antibacterial. It attacks and kills viruses that have a lipid (fatty) coating, such as herpes, HIV, hepatitis C, the flu, and mononucleosis. It kills the bacteria that cause pneumonia, sore throats, dental cavities, urinary tract infections, meningitis, gonorrhea, food poisoning, pneumonia, and many, many more bacterial infections.
