By alena jones at 2010-12-17 05:21:01
Eye floaters are a very common yet often misunderstood condition. In simple terms 'floaters' appear as small movable dark specks in the eye. They are in fact very small pieces of debris in the vitreous, from the back of the eye which cast shadows which appear to dart around your eyes, especially when looking at a bright white background. In most case they are totally benign, however if you develop a lot of them suddenly you should immediately go to an ophthalmologist just to have your eyes checked out.

Floaters or muscae volitantes are flecks or cobwebs that float. They are small and dark shadows that dart around. They may look like spots or thread-like strands. They usually follow your movements and will stay there when your eye stops moving around. They are annoying and happen to a lot of people as they get old. If you are diabetic or have a cataract surgery you are at a higher risk for eye floaters.

Eye floaters can be very irritating and annoying, but there are no safe and proven methods to get rid of the symptoms caused by vitreous syneresis or posterior vitreous detachment. Not to worry because there are simple and natural ways to clear your vision effectively.

What are the causes?
o Most floaters are the result of bits of cells that remain in the vitreous humor after birth and float around when the vitreous becomes more liquefied later in life.
o Other spots can be caused by little bits of protein trapped within the eye during pregnancy.
o Floaters are commonly found all the rage shortsighted individuals and individuals with food allergies. Vitreous detachment is moreover customary all the rage diabetics, but the highest rate of complaints of floaters is all the rage individuals larger than the age of 70. This is once the prevalence of a vitreous detachment jumps from 10% of the population to 63%.
Floaters develop more frequently as we get older. Youngsters hardly ever have problems with them. When you see floaters, it truly is ideal to create an appointment along with your eye physician who can examine your vision in a complete eye exam. This can rule out any critical conditions that could potentially trigger seeing spots including diabetes, retinal tear or retinal detachment.

They are most visible when you stare at a white wall or a clear sky. Most people confuse light flashes with floaters, but they are not the same thing. Light flashes are just bright lights flashing across the eye. Most often, eye floaters go unnoticed and they are really not very bothersome. However, when they occur in excess, it is necessary to consult a doctor about it.
